The general objective of this study was to determine the relationship between basic cognitive processes and reading comprehension in elementary school students. The design of the study was correlational because it was intended to describe the relationship or level of association existing between the variables. On the other hand, we worked with 70 4th grade elementary school students between 9 and 10 years of age. The instrument used was a Likert scale of basic cognitive processes that sought to measure perception, attention and memory through statements that demonstrate in practice the development of these and a reading comprehension questionnaire that evaluates the levels of text comprehension, made by Canario and Laynes (2022), which have adequate reliability indexes, α= 0.767 and α=0.880 respectively. The results show that there is a significant positive correlation between the two variables, which leads to the conclusion that basic cognitive processes and reading comprehension are significantly related.
