Introduction: Throughout their lives, human beings acquire lifestyles, within these we can observe the type of diet they adopt, which can be good or bad. This type of habit when it is bad can lead to diseases such as overweight and obesity. As the evolution of society and the globalized world goes, health personnel are studying new anthropometric methods, among them we have the neck circumference that is currently being included as a measure to determine overweight or obesity being easily applicable unlike the abdominal perimeter that for years has been used for early intervention of these pathologies, we can see that this measure suffers variations throughout the day unlike the neck circumference. The objective of the study is to determine the correlation between neck circumference and abdominal perimeter in order to use it at the first level of care as a new parameter for prevention and treatment of these metabolic characteristics in the population. Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional, correlational, non-experimental, observational, correlational study was carried out. The sample size was 174 participants from two hospitals in Cusco. To determine the correlation, covariation was performed to observe the degree of concordance of the relative positions of the variables using a 95% confidence interval with a Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Of the 174 study participants, 70 were male (40.2%) and 104 were female (59.8%). The mean age of the males was 41.9 and of the females 40.5. For the neck circumference variable, the mean for males was 39.6 cm and for females 35.09 cm. Abdominal perimeter had an average value of 98.3 cm in males and 91.4 cm in females. Correlation between abdominal perimeter and neck circumference according to sex; a moderately significant correlation was observed for men (r=0.486, p= 0.001) and for women a moderately significant correlation was also observed (r=0.520, p= 0.001). When correlating the two variables according to age; in people older than 40 years the correlation is moderate (r= 0.509, P=0.001) and in people younger than 40 years the correlation is good (r=0.633, p=0.001). Conclusions: It was concluded that there is a relationship between abdominal perimeter and neck circumference according to sex gender, there being a greater degree of association in the female sex and it was also determined that there is a relationship of both variables with those under 40 years of age with greater statistical relevance.
