Objective: to conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature on the insecticidal activity of medicinal plants against Aedes aegypti. Materials and methods: qualitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional study. A search for scientific information was carried out in databases such as Lilacs, Dialnet, Scielo and Scopus. Eligibility criteria established those manuscripts had to be 10 years old, the languages were only Spanish and English, and only original and experimental articles covering pharmacological, phytochemical and toxicological aspects were accepted. Results: after applying the eligibility criteria, only 30 articles were evaluated. At the phytochemical level, the plants mainly presented phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, phenolic compounds, terpenes and monoterpenes. At the pharmacological level, the plantspecies were used in the form of essential oils which had an adequate larvicidal effect and at the toxicological level, the different doses used caused the mortality of each of the mosquito stages. Conclusions: the different studies of medicinal plants with insecticidal activity against Aedes aegypti indicate a high efficacy in altering the mosquito's life cycle.
