Abstract: La presente investigación busca identificar la influencia del crecimiento económico, el
grado de apertura comercial y el nivel de inversión extranjera directa en las solicitudes de
patentes en el Perú durante el período 1978-2018. La investigación es motivada por la
gran brecha entre el número de patentes registradas por residentes nacionales y
extranjeros; con una diferencia de 1 a 5. Se utilizan los datos de series de tiempo del
Banco Central de Reserva para las variables independientes y el histórico de solicitudes
de Patentes por residentes nacionales de Indecopi. La investigación es de tipo
correlacional y no experimental. Se aplica el modelo de series de tiempo multivariado
VECM (Modelo de corrección de errores vectoriales), el cual nos permite identificar el
efecto de corto y largo plazo en la variación en las solicitudes de patentes. Los resultados
de largo plazo indican que solo la Inversión Extranjera Directa tiene un efecto causal en
el número de patentes, indicando que la innovación depende en gran parte del
conocimiento y tecnología trasladada al país por empresas extranjeras. Los resultados de
corto plazo indican que la innovación es un proceso estructural que se construye a lo largo
de los años. Se sugiere la expansión de iniciativas como el Programa Patenta, el programa
Inventores del Futuro, entre otros, que pueden incentivar el registro de patentes por
residentes nacionales.
This research seeks to identify the influence of economic growth, the degree of trade openness and the level of foreign direct investment in the applications and registration of patents in Peru during the period 1978-2018. The large gap between the number of patents registered by national and foreign residents motivates the research, which has a difference of 1 to 5. We use the time series data of the Central Reserve Bank for the independent variables and the history of patent applications by national residents of Indecopi. The research is correlational and non-experimental. We apply the VECM (Vector Error Correction Model) multivariate time series model, which allows us to identify the short and long-term effect on the variation in patent applications. The long-term results indicate that only Foreign Direct Investment has a causal effect on the number of patents, indicating that innovation depends largely on the knowledge and technology transferred to the country by foreign companies. The short-term results indicate that innovation is a structural process built over the years. The expansion of initiatives such as the Patenta Program, the Inventors of the Future program, among others may encourage the registration of patents by national residents.
