The tuberculosis is a serious public health problem at a national and global level, however, the infection is curable and preventable; it is produced by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which mainly affects lung tissue; It is transmitted when the patient expels the bacilli by coughing, sneezing or spitting. It frequently affects the lungs with symptoms such as: cough, fever, chest pain, nocturnal diaphoresis and weight loss that can be mild to severe in patients who take time to seek medical attention, leading to transmission, and with it the spread of the illness. Tuberculosis mainly affects the lungs (Pulmonary Tuberculosis). It can also affect other organs (Extra-Pulmonary Tuberculosis). It is one of the major health problems in underdeveloped countries and also in developing countries. Based on the problem detected, it is possible to identify that it is of great relevance and concern to investigate the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis. From there arises the question of what is the prevalence of tuberculosis diagnosed by bacilloscopy in the Ipress I-3 TUPAC AMARU in the city of Iquitos from January to December - 2020? Carrying out this study on the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis is an interesting proposal to study, because it seeks to know its prevalence and determine the characteristics of the population affected by this pathology, being one of the most important points to take into account for conducting this study. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, retrospective study was developed; in order to know the prevalence of tuberculosis diagnosed by Bacilloscopy in the Ipress I-3 TUPAC AMARU in the city of Iquitos from January to December – 2020 Results: It was found that of the 611 patients attended from January to December 2020 for diagnosis of tuberculosis by smear microscopy, 369 (60.4%) were men and 242 (39.6%) were women; of which 34 cases were smear positive, representing a prevalence of 5.6% of these positive cases, 30 (88.2%) were male and 4 (11.8%) were female. Of the positive cases in males, 28 cases (93.3%) belong to the age group of 19-64 years and 2 cases (6.7%) are >65 years; while in women the 4 cases (100%) belong to the group of 19 - 64 years. According to the place of origin of the positive cases, it was found that 19 cases (55.9%) are from urban areas, 11 cases (32.2%) are from rural areas and 4 cases (11.8%) from urban-marginal areas.
