Introduction. Subdermal implants have emerged as a necessity in the search for the ideal contraceptive, which must have high security, minimal side effects, be reversible, comfortable, easy to use and long lasting. It is one of the most effective methods, however, it has also been observed to cause unwanted adverse effects and to have a high implication in early withdrawal and cessation of use. Objective. To determine if there is a relationship between adverse effects and early removal of the subdermal implant in users of the Regional Hospital of Loreto in the period January-December 2019. Methodology. A quantitative and retrospective study, with a non-experimental, crosssectional, descriptive and correlational design. The sample included 54 users. Data collection was obtained from a secondary source. Results. 50% of the sample is between 20 and 34 years old, 46.3% with higher education and from urban areas, 64.8% are cohabiting and 37% multiparous. The use time of 50% of users was less than 6 months, alteration of menstrual bleeding was the most frequent complication. A relationship was found with the alteration of menstrual bleeding (p = 0.046) and with the variation of weight (p = 0.041).
