Blood donation continues to be one of the procedures that saves many lives, however, if adequate measures are not taken to guarantee its quality, it can be the cause of contagion of many diseases and complicate the life and health of patients. Although it is true that there are currently technologies and methods that allow to investigate the infections present in a person, sometimes they are not enough to detect it, since for the period of elapsed the infection there may be cases that are still un detectable to the analyzes laboratory, which is known as a “window period“. Therefore, the donor selection phase is important to examine and evaluate potential risks of being a donor, in addition to ensuring the safety of the donor himself, that in some cases blood donation can be risky for himself. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, correlational, retrospective study was developed; in order to know what are the causes of Deferral and rejection of blood donation in pre-donors treated at the Blood Bank of Loreto Regional Hospital - 2018 .
