Objective: To determine maternal risk factors related to prematurity in the Neonatology Service, Regional Hospital of Cusco - 2018 Methodology: Study of quantitative, descriptive, correlational, transversal and retrospective type. I worked with a sample of 121 premature newborns in 2018 of the Regional Hospital of Cusco, calculated by a probabilistic sampling. Results: With regard to the general characteristics of mothers of premature newborns, 48% came from rural areas and 17% from marginal-urban areas; 78% were cohabitants and 11% were single and married; 50% obtained secondary education and 2% without any degree of instruction. About the classification of prematurity by gestational age of the newborn in the Regional Hospital of Cusco, it was observed that 10% were extreme premature, 18% very premature and 72% premature moderate. Among the maternal factors related to the prematurity of the newborn it was found that 75.21% had urinary tract infections in some trimester of pregnancy (p = 0.020), 29.75% and 22.31% of the extreme ages of the mothers were present <20 years and> 35 years respectively (p = 0.012), premature rupture of membranes in 43.8% (p = 0.000), 30.58% were nulligravid mothers and 27.27% multiparous (p = 0.028), 29.75% had a history of 1 or more miscarriages (p = 0.021), 31.4% had a history of presenting 1 - 2 premature births (p = 0.046) and finally multiple births occurred in 33.88% (p = 0.030). Maternal factors that are not related to prematurity in newborns are gestational anemia (p = 0.587), have a lower number of 6 prenatal care (p = 0.129), the intergenesic period (p = 0.254) and the disease hypertensive in pregnancy (p = 0.259)
