Introduction Depressive disorder is one of the most frequent affective disorders in the elderly, it diminishes the quality of life of the elderly and can lead to disability, complicates the treatment of diseases and increases the risk of presenting new diseases. Objective To determine the degree of depression in older adults of a comprehensive care center of the district municipality of San Juan Bautista, 2018. Methodology The present study is of a quantitative type with a cross-sectional descriptive and prospective design, 82 elderly persons of both were evaluated. sexes without mental impairment, which are taken care of in the Integral Attention Center of the district municipality of San Juan Bautista, the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale test is applied. Results Eighty-two elders were evaluated from the integral care center of the San Juan Bautista district municipality, 34.1% are between 65 and 69 years old, 63.4% are women, 34.1% are widowed, 79.3% have primary education, 40.2% were independent in their income, 98.8% receive lower minimum wage and 22.0% live with only one child. The main Co-morbidities referred by the elderly were: hypertension (20.7%), arthritis (12.2%), cataract (7.3%), migraine (6.1%), myopia (3.7%), gastritis (3.6%) and diabetes (2.4%). 46.3% of the senior citizens of the Comprehensive Care Center of the district municipality of San Juan Bautista are not depressed, 45.1% have mild depression and 8.5% depression. Conclusion Depression in the elderly was associated with the presence of comorbidity (p = 0.000). Older adults between 60 to 64 years old (p = 0.992); those of female sex (p = 0.614); those who do not have a level of education (p = 0.554); the divorced (p = 0.076); with lower minimum vital salary (p = 0.279) they presented with greater frequency depression, but the relation was not significant.
