Background: Prematurity is the leading cause of neonatal mortality at global and national standings, complications are poorly studied and also related to neonatal factors, which are reason of study in this research. This study also tries to go through the possible causes of morbidity such as neonatal pathologies. The aim of the study was to determine the neonatal complications associated with premature newborns in the Neonatology Unit of Cusco´s Antonio Lorena Hospital, 2018. Methods: Descriptive transversal observational retrospective study. The population was based on all premature newborns who meet the inclusion criteria in the Neonatal Service Cusco´s Antonio Lorena Hospital, 2018. The variables were addressed by univarite and bivariate statistical analysis. Results: 58% of newborns were male, 21% had an adequate weight birth, and 65.6% were late premature, 69% were suitable for gestational age, 14.3% had some degree of depression at minute and 4, 2% at five minutes. The most frequent perinatal complications were: respiratory distress syndrome (38.6%), neonatal hypoglycemia (37.1%), sepsis (29.7%), jaundice (23.7%) and dehydration of the newborn (19, 3%). Other complications were congenital malformations (12.2%), perinatal asphyxia (5%), ABO blood group incompatibility (5%), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (4.7%), anemia of prematurity (4.2%), necrotising enterocolitis (3.6%), premature apnea (2.7%), intraventricular hemorrhage (2.1%) and retinopathy of prematurity (0.9%). Conclusions: Perinatal complications associated with prematurity were: respiratory distress syndrome (p = 0.000), sepsis (p = 0.000), perinatal asphyxia (p = 0.000), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (p = 0.001) and apnea of prematurity (p = 0.010).
