HIV patients are screened to detect multiple co-infections, however the detection of HTLV 1/2 is not routine. The co-infection with HTLV 1/2 may have implications in the quality of life, mortality, medical complications, and survival of HIV patients. Therefore, by a cross-sectional study, we determine the prevalence of co - infection HTLV 1/2 in HIV adult patients whose receive anti retroviral treatment at “Regional Hospital of Loreto” during the second trimester of 2013. Our results demonstrated a co-infection prevalence 10% (28/ 284) risk factors associated with, were being older than 35 ORp 12.4, CI95 % ( 3.6 - 43.2 ), P < 0.001 and have a history of more than 10 sexual partners ORp 3.6, 95% CI ( 1.4 - 9.1 ), P = 0.007 . In conclusion, there is a high HTLV 1/2 co-infection prevalence in people living with HIV, which has not previously been reported in our country. We recommend future studies to assess the possible risks of co- infected patients.
