The present report refers to the results of the Level II Energy Audit realized at the DSM Marine Lipids Plant in Catacaos, Piura-Peru, realized from November 04 to 28 the fieldwork and from November 29 to December 18, the cabinet work to be able to identify the dynamics of the thermal energy consumption and the energy performance of the heat consuming equipment. The work allowed to identify opportunities for efficient use of energy in the company in the operational areas and the boiler room, through a structured work methodology with 03 workgroups with defined activities, each one for the achievement of the purposes of this audit. At the fieldwork, the relevant information on the physical and chemical operating variables of the BW boiler was collected about generation, distribution, and return of condensate and the consumer equipment of the operational areas of the company, for this was used certified instrumentation such as gas analyzer, thermographic camera, steam trap inspection equipment, and ultrasound flow meter. We mention that these activities were realized considering the safety and hygiene regulations at work. The evaluation in the boiler room allows identifying opportunities for efficient energy use such as increasing the performance of the BW boiler from 81% to 85% with an annual saving of U$ 38,140.60 and the change of the energy matrix from Petroleum BD5 to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), with significant savings of the order of 44% in terms of costs with the change of the energy matrix, obtaining monthly savings between U$ 38,076.90 to U$ 26,583.80, depending on the production volume, this change in the energy matrix is also applicable to the Purification area. It is presented the proposal of recover of the process condensates, which are currently discarded, which will generate a cost reduction of U$ 8,871.3 per month. Therefore, we express our gratitude to the plant management for carrying out this work, which when executed will allow the company DSM Marine Lipids Peru-Catacaos, Piura-Peru to position itself at the level corresponding to the companies that apply within their productive activities the concepts of efficient use and energy saving, which contributes to the sustainability of the environment, by reducing the consumption of primary energy or opting for a more environmentally friendly fuel.
