Introduction: The impact generated by overweight and obesity in teenagers by adopting a high sedentary behavior and a low level of physical activity. Objective: To determine the relationship between sedentary behavior and the level of physical activity with the body mass index in teenagers of the 51006 Tupac Amaru Cusco School, 2023. Methodology: An observational, analytical, quantitative correlational and cross-sectional study was developed. A population sample of 150 teenagers enrolled in the 3rd, 4th and 5th years of high school at the 51006 Tupac Amaru school in 2023 was collected. Data were obtained using two questionnaires on Physical Activity in Adolescents (PAQ-A) and Sedentary Activity in teenagers (ASAQ), and the body mass index was obtained by calculating weight and height. SPSS version 26.0 was used for the statistical analysis, using ANOVA test to analyze the relationship between variables and Pearson's correlation test to determine the association. Results: The age of the population was between 14 and 17 years, average 15.5 years (n=48). Regarding gender, 56.7% (n=85%) was female and 43.3% (n=65) male. The body mass index, 56.7% (n=85%) of the sample was overweight and obese. There is a significant relationship between sedentary behavior and level of physical activity with the (BMI) with a (p=0.018) p<0.05, where the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. A statistically significant relationship was obtained between sedentary behavior and body mass index (p=0.04) p<0.05, inferring that teenagers who are overweight (48%, n=72) and obese (8.7%, n=13) present high sedentary behavior; in the same way, the relationship between physical activity and body mass index (p=0.029) p<0.05 was obtained, where overweight adolescents present low (22%, n=33) and very low (37.3%, n=56) physical activity. Conclusion: The study revealed a significant relationship between sedentary behavior and the level of physical activity with body mass index in teenagers of school 51006 Tupac Amaru Cusco, 2023.
