Globally, more than 80 percent of all products and goods are shipped by sea. A part of this transport is the shipment of liquid hydrocarbons through tankers both nationally and internationally. This form of transport is widely used to supply terminals or refineries on the Peruvian coast. However, as different petroleum products, petrochemicals, and other bulk liquids are traded, transported, or stored, variations in quantity measurements occur at a given place and time, due to different circumstances. It is therefore important to precisely control any variation in the volumetric balance of liquid products to be transported as they move through the supply chain. The lack of experience for the measurement, the demonstration and the maritime custody transfer processes of the shipment of liquid hydrocarbons could mean the discrepancy between what was gained or lost. If the proper checks and balances are not maintained in each process of the transfer of hydrocarbons, they could generate losses. The objective of this professional proficiency work is to control the losses of liquid shipments through the analysis of a hydrocarbon loading and unloading trip, through calculations of complex loads, the determination of the source and the intensity of the losses and steps to mitigate such losses.
