The danger of tsunami inundation and its consequences on the peruvian coast is a latent issue that persists for years, even more so if you have a notable seismic history increasing the probability that a large event will occur at any instant of time, increasing the level of exposure of numerous coastal towns to flash inundation, mainly those that are located very close to the coast without any safety criteria, favoring the effects that a tsunami could cause. The present work entitled “Proposal for a methodology to improve the tsunami mapping protocol and risk reduction of inundation” proposes a solid and detailed methodology in the elaboration of said product, seeking to improve the technique that is currently used. In the study, various criteria were considered according to the experience obtained such as: the determination of areas with very low topographic elevation, their proximity to the coast, the seismic history as well as the amount of population exposed in beaches, spas, ports, or coves of fishing being its settlement temporarily or permanently, increasing the number of coastal towns. For this purpose, a background compilation, a review of the state of the art with respect to existing methodologies, an analysis and description of the scenarios affected by previous events, as well as the proposal of indicators that lead to improving the preparation of the tsunami flood map by means of the which base map studies that complement the establishment of risk areas due to the identification of the historical recurrence of earthquakes that cause a possible tsunami are addressed, there are identified coastal localities that are permanently exposed to this danger. The results of the study according to the presented methodology define relevant areas of the work as a projection of a future work by calculating an evaluation index for the classification of coastal localities in Peru, contributing to the national policy of disaster risk management.
