The present investigation was carried out with the objective of studying the capacity of organic matter removal of the Upflow Anaerobic Filter reactor (FAFA) as a post-treatment to an upflow sludge mantle reactor (UASB) that treats the waters Domestic residuals from the urban authorizations "El Ángel" and "El Milagro". This treatment is carried out inside the facilities of the Research Center of Domestic Residual Waters and Dangerous Residues of the National University of Engineering (CITRAR-UNI). The treatment carried out in the FAFAs, support media and gravel is secondary and is focused on reducing the percentage of the organic load of wastewater, the objective of the research is to compare the efficiency of the modules and quantify which of the two It has greater efficiency. Also, the treatment proposal is mainly aimed at small populations, in other words, the FAFAs treat smaller flows that can vary in the range of 5 to 10 L / s. The module consists of two FAFA reactors at laboratory scale and in parallel; that is, an acrylic reactor with gravel (confitillo) inside and a similar one with corrugated PVC pipes cut into pieces, both without recirculation. The porosities of the media applied were 50% and 91.4% respectively. The corresponding averages for organic load removal were 44.06% and 42.73% respectively. The maximum permissible limits (LMP) for the effluents of Domestic or Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP), for the Housing sector approved by Supreme Decree N ° 003-2010-MINAM, in terms of organic matter (100 mg / L for BOD and 200 mg / L for COD) was achieved in the two FAFAs.
