The objective of this research work is to recognize the importance of teachers not only transmitting academic knowledge, but also promoting the integral development of students as participative citizens committed to their social environment. The pedagogical competences of teachers encompass not only the ability to effectively teach curricular content, but also the ability to foster civic, ethical and social values in students that allow them to actively contribute to the construction of a democratic and fair society. On the other hand, active citizenship implies the conscious and responsible participation of individuals in public life, exercising their rights and duties in an informed and committed manner. In this context, it was relevant to investigate how teachers' pedagogical competences relate to the promotion of active citizenship in first-cycle university students of the Faculty of Sciences. Understanding this relationship can provide valuable information for the design of educational strategies that strengthen both the academic training and civic commitment of future professionals. The final statistical results revealed a Rho correlation coefficient equal to 0.991 and a significance value (bilateral) of 0.000, indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the teaching pedagogical competencies and the citizen participation of the students of the first cycle of the study programs of the Faculty of Sciences of the Enrique Guzmán y Valle National University of Education – 2023. These findings suggest that the students of the first cycle possess and effectively develop their learning skills. In addition, they indicate that these competencies transcend the mastery of the thematic contents, since they are designed to guarantee a professional training that responds to the demands of the labor market and to encourage the active participation of students in society. The latter allows them to contribute, from their role as future teachers, to the construction of a more just and equitable society.
