The objective of this research work was to determine the relationship between cognitive strategies and reading comprehension of argumentative texts in students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the UNE. The research has a quantitative approach and is included in the category of descriptive correlational research, with a non-experimental, correlational design. The sample was non-probabilistic, comprised of 100 students from the second cycle of the UNE. To collect the necessary data, the survey technique was used, using the cognitive strategies questionnaire and the argumentative text reading comprehension questionnaire as instruments. Expert evaluation was applied to establish the validity of the instrument, and to determine its reliability, the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was applied, which was determined to be around 0.894 and 0.709, respectively. The hypothesis test shows a Spearman's Rho correlation of .882. Therefore, it is concluded that cognitive strategies are significantly related to the reading comprehension of argumentative texts in students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the UNE, 2019.
