The main objective of this research work is to reduce the mold change time in the plastic injection line of PLASTIMET S.A.C. located in the city of Arequipa -Peru, therefore, the lack of optimization in mold change activities was identified as a problem, through this analysis is that the use of the Lean Manufacturing SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) tool is proposed for the identification and reduction of activities that donot add value to the mold change procedure. Through an analysis of the amount of production performed by the injection line, the machine and mold of the product to be evaluated are chosen for the subsequent application of the improvement plan. The implementation of the SMED tool begins with the identification and separation of internal and external activities, as well as a time study that provides a broader picture of the problem. Subsequently, the proposed improvements were applied and evaluated, achieving a 48.6% reduction in mold changeover time and an 11.6% increase in the production of the shift in which the change was made. Finally, an evaluation of the economic impact resulting from the application of the SMED tool in the mold change was elaborated.
