The present study called: Internal control and improvement of accountability for travel expenses in a district municipality of the La Libertad region– 2022 is an investigation that addresses the problem of the lack of internal control in the entity, where there is no participation of the authorities, thus generating poor accountability, for which the main objective was to determine the relationship between the two variables. A basic investigation of a quantitative approach of correlative investigation was carried out, non-experimental design; cross-sectional and made up of a sample of 78 workers. Two questionnaires were applied, one for each variable with closed questions on a Likert scale. The data were processed by the SPSS v 26 program. Obtaining as results that the average age of the collaborators was 35 years, where 55% were men and 45% women, likewise 73.1% expressed their indifference regarding internal control. , however, 70.5% showed a good level in the rendering of per diems, a moderate positive correlation (Spearman's rho=0.466) between the internal control variable and the rendering of accounts for per diems, concluding that both variables are highly related in a that if an internal control is carried out, it contributes to the improvement in accountability for travel expenses.
