In relation to gestational age, 75.7% had between 37 to 40 weeks and 24.3% had 41 weeks or more. 76.3% were multiparous. The pre-gestational body mass index was 36.2% overweight, 30.9% normal weight, and 30.3% obese. 44.1% presented a first degree tear in the birth canal, 32.2% prolonged labor. Neonatal complications were 36.2% shoulder dystocia, meconium aspiration syndrome 32.9%, clavicle fracture 25%, 27.6% with caput succedaneum, 19.1% brachial or facial palsy and asphyxia neonatal 3.7%. Concluding that obesity and pre-gestational overweight were the most frequent characteristics in mothers with macrosomic newborns. The most frequent maternal complication was prolonged labor and laceration of the birth canal. Meconium aspiration syndrome and shoulder dystocia were the most frequent neonatal complications.
