The objective of this research is to determine the impact of the application of traffic analysis tools based on the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) methodology on the operability of the Alipio Ponce interchange. The research methodology considers as a starting point the diagnosis of the operational problems of the aforementioned road interchange and the review of specialized literature, making an in-depth analysis of the Highway Manuals of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of Peru and the Highway Manual of the Ministry of Public Works of Chile, The design of this proposal was adjusted and validated through the application of a traffic analysis tool (VISSIM), by means of which its performance indicators were determined and contrasted with the performance indicators of the current scenario. From the review of the specialized literature, it became evident that the Peruvian Highway Manual (2018 version) lacks some design parameters for link branches, compared to Manuals such as the Chilean one. This is why, despite the fact that the Alipio Ponce interchange branch road complies with the requirements of the Peruvian Manual; however, it presents road functionality problems. According to the results of the application of the "visisim" traffic analysis tool, by incorporating a speed change lane to the interchange branch at the junction with Alipio Ponce Avenue, this lane avoids the formation of queues on the interchange branch and optimizes travel time, it was found that there is a positive impact on the interchange branch, in vehicle congestion, delays are reduced by 36%, emissions are reduced by 3. 6 tons of CO2 in the hour of highest vehicle demand (from 42.9 tn/CO2-hp to 39.3 tn/CO2-hp), and due to the savings in travel time, man-hour losses decrease and therefore, also the economic impact in S/ 4,290 soles in the hour of highest vehicle demand (from S/ 5,482 soles/hp to S/ 1,192 soles/hp).
