The power production, thermoelectric production and fuel consumption continue to change large greenhouse gas emissions. A viable solution is to use a tool that allows estimating the amount of emissions of a certain pollutant generated by a source or activity, known as the emission factor expressed in tCO2equivalent/MWh. This study seeks to calculate the emission factor of the national interconnected electric system, using the simple operating margin formula, included in the greenhouse gas protocol methodology, since to 2019 to 2021. It concludes by making a comparison between the proposed emission factor and the national emission factor provided by the directorate for adaptation to climate change and desertification, ministry of the environment, giving an average margin of error of 1,08%, which indicates that our proposal is valid and reliable.
