ABSTRACT The purpose of this research is to determine whether the removal of residual content of chlorine is possible through the activated carbon in order to validate the pilot system in the potable water treatment plant – Minera Yanacocha, which intends to install one activated carbon filtration column on the process output. To do so, a filter has been built consisting of three layers: drainage gravel, gravel separation and activated carbon, proceeding on the basis that 2kg have been continuously added to the 9.5 kg of activated carbon until completing a total of 31.5 kg. So as to get it filtered; water has been poured in each time this material has been added and as a result of this 12 post-contact samples have been gathered which have been analized as well as compared in a laboratory taking into account the concentration controls. In this statistical study the average removal percent is 88.82, ensuring its effectiveness. On account of the correlational evaluation it is safe to say that if the filter holds a higher amount of activated carbon the removal percent will therefore be greater.
