The objective of this study is to ascertain the relationship between on-the-job training and the development of competencies in teachers of the Administration school at a private university in Trujillo in 2023. The educational institution has a job training plan as part of its operations. This research employs a quantitative approach, a non-experimental design, a cross-sectional and correlational scope. The data were collected via a questionnaire and analysed using the Pearson coefficient, which revealed significant and direct high-level relationships between training and generic (Pearson coefficient of 0.755), specific (0.582) and technical (0.689) competences. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test demonstrated that the data followed a normal distribution for the job training and skills development variable, thus enabling the use of parametric tests. In conclusion, in-service training is fundamental for the development of competences in teachers, significantly influencing general, generic, specific and technical competences. These results emphasise the importance of continuous training programmes to improve educational quality, providing a basis for future educational and professional development strategies at university level
