In a globalized world, China has positioned itself as a dominant commercial force through the expansion of national companies that have established trade relationships with various countries, especially in Latin America. These connections have been largely facilitated, through the translation of business documents, such as corporate reports. In this sense, financial and business translation, two relatively unexplored branches of economic translation, stand out in both translation studies and the corporate sector. Such documents are essential for projecting a company’s identity and attracting new investors. The goal of this research is to describe the process of the annotated translation from Mandarin Chinese to Standard Spanish of the corporate report 可持续发展报告 [Sustainability Report] (Cosco Shipping Holdings, 2023) from Nord's functionalist approach. Drawing on the specific research questions, the study will begin with the identification of the particular features of the extratextual and intratextual factors of the study object and linking them to the financial and business translation. Furthermore, strategies and techniques will be used to solve the problems and difficulties identified in the source text translation. Lastly, a contrastive analysis will be conducted to evaluate the transfer of the communicative functions, which are predominantly referential and appellative.
