The anthology Dear Sister: Letters from Survivors of Sexual Violence compiles letters, essays, and poems recounting experiences of sexual abuse and the healing processes of survivors from diverse age groups, ethnic backgrounds, and social classes. This book was edited by activist writer and editor Lisa Factora-Borchers and published by AK Press in the United States in 2014. This thesis addresses a notable research gap concerning the translation of metaphorical agency, particularly in relation to sexual abuse as narrated from survivors’ perspectives. To bridge this gap, a commentated translation of selected letters from this anthology will be conducted with the aim of analyzing the metaphorical agency to invite readers to reflect on the implicit language of sexual violence embedded within these metaphorical expressions. The methodological framework combines the Conceptual Metaphor Theory proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) for the identification and analysis of metaphors and the functionalist translation approach by Nord (2012) for the translational process. Additionally, a philological perspective will be applied, integrating translator notes to provide insight into the description and analysis of the metaphorical agency.
