This study examines the impact of access to healthcare services on out-of-pocket expenditures for Peruvian households during the period 2015–2019. Using data from the National Household Survey (ENAHO) provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) and the National Registry of Health Service Providers (RENIPRESS) managed by the National Superintendence of Health (SUSALUD), the research evaluates the economic dynamics associated with geographic proximity to healthcare facilities and their relationship to household health-related costs. The methodology employs econometric techniques, including matching and difference-in-differences analysis, to identify patterns and effects linked to healthcare expenditures. The findings reveal that the distance to healthcare facilities significantly increases out-of-pocket expenditures, particularly in rural areas where access to public health services is limited. These results underscore the need for public policies aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure to reduce disparities in access and promote economic equity. This study provides a comprehensive perspective on the economic and geographic barriers faced by Peruvian households, offering robust evidence for the development of strategies to improve social welfare.
