This study examines the impact of unemployment on credit card portfolio delinquency and credit risk in Peru, focusing on the critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a dynamic panel data econometric model, macroeconomic factors such as unemployment rate, exchange rate, and interest rate are analyzed alongside the credit management policies of financial institutions. The findings reveal that the rise in unemployment, particularly during the health crisis, significantly contributed to the deterioration of credit portfolios. Debt rescheduling measures partially mitigated the impact but failed to prevent a general increase in delinquency rates. The study concludes that adaptive financial policies and diversification strategies are essential to address similar crises in the future and ensure the stability of the financial system.
