Objective: to determine the level of knowledge about the human immunodeficiency virus in 4th and 5th year high school students at the Reino de España Educational Institution, Barranco -2024. Materials and methods: a quantitative approach, non- experimental, cross-sectional and descriptive design was used. The population was the students of the Reino de España Educational Institution, taking 103 participants as a sample. The technique was the survey and the instrument was the questionnaire "level of knowledge of HIV" Results: the results found during the study showed that the level of knowledge about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus was mostly regular (41.7%) followed by excellent (40.8%) and low (17.5%). In the dimension of understanding of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, most have a regular level (38.8%), followed by excellent (356.9%) and low (25.2%). In the dimension of transmission routes of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, the majority had a regular level (47.6%), followed by an excellent level (35.9%) and a low level (16.5%). In the dimension of understanding the signs of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, the regular level predominated (56.3%), followed by an excellent level (22.3%) and finally a low level (21.4%). In the dimension about HIV treatment, the majority had an excellent level (46.6%), followed by a regular level (35.9%) and a low level (17.5%). Conclusions: the level of knowledge about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus in adolescents was mostly a regular level, followed by an excellent level and a low level.
