Introduction: the perception and use of generic drugs in Peru faces several barriers that limit their acceptance. These barriers include public distrust, influenced by lack of information and confusion about the quality and efficacy of these products. To improve access to generic drugs, strategies are proposed that include educational interventions starting in adolescence, with the aim of cultivating good self-care habits. In addition, the need for financial support for research and production of generic drugs is highlighted, as well as a more rigorous control of the market to combat the commercialization of adulterated products. Method: the study was carried out through a systematic analysis of ten scientific articles that address perceptions and barriers in the use of generic drugs. Results: the study emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach combining education, regulation and public policy, which would facilitate more equitable access to essential treatments. Conclusion:to promote greater adoption of generic medicines, it is essential to address existing barriers through education, effective regulation and support for research and development. This will help improve public perception and ensure equitable access to effective treatment options
