The following research seeks to answer the question of why anti-Fujimorism is a political force that manages to mobilize—both electorally and in the form of marches—but fails to generate political organization. Three hypotheses are proposed in response to this question. The first hypothesis suggests that, unlike political parties, “anti” movements have a single rallying topic (Weyland, 2021). We will develop the hypotheses based on Weyland’s (2021) proposals, which highlight the importance of studying neo-populisms and their respective opposition initiatives, as well as Zavaleta’s (2014) studies on independent coalitions. We will also analyze the importance of emotional variables that influence voting, which are difficult to identify and modify, causing the anti-Fujimorist political identity to persist over time. The second hypothesis proposes that, as a group opposing a party that claims to be “antiestablishment,” becoming a political party and thus becoming part of the establishment would not facilitate their work against Fujimorism. Additionally, due to their oppositional political stance, they do not have explicit support from organized political groups, such as parties or movements. Even representatives of economic power label the phenomenon as “haters” or “hate speech.” Finally, the transfer of votes between the first and second electoral rounds is quantitatively evaluated in the three General Election processes in which candidate Keiko Fujimori has participated.
