Various investigations have pointed out the role of metaphor to generate new understandings within the framework of psychotherapeutic processes whose effectiveness has been observed in therapeutic changes. In this research, we have relied on the notion of Conceptual Metaphor (CM) of Cognitive Linguistics (Lakoff and Johnson 1980, 1999) to analyze segments of the last session of a focal psychoanalytic psychotherapy process at two complementary levels. At a first level, the main CM used by P and T in the Moments of Change (MC) were identified, analyzing the source domain, the target domain, the correspondences between both and the inferences that are preserved when moving from one domain to the other, showing how these CMs allow to generate in the P comprehensions or understandings that favor subjective changes with respect to itself and others. At a second level, a detailed examination of the verbal exchange between P and T in the segments where those CMs appear was done using the tools of dialogue analysis, showing that these are not something that the T creates and proposes the patient in a unidirectional way, but, on the contrary, are products of the dialogical co-construction between P and T. As it is a vulnerable patient in a situation of violence, this research also tries to constitute a contribution to the important work that is done in favor of said population through a deep qualitative analysis that favors the influence of this task in the clinical practice with this population (Jiménez, 2005).
