The present investigation proposes to determine from the users of the service, which is the situation of the process of voluntary interruption by therapeutic indication of pregnancy under 22 weeks, in two hospitals of Lima: Maria Auxiliadora Hospital and the National Institute of Perinatal Maternity, which will allow to know how the implementation of the norm is being fulfilled and which key factors should be reinforced in the service that the health establishments offer, leading to improve each part of the process of attention to women. The objectives of the research are to identify the level of knowledge of women about voluntary termination of pregnancy under 22 weeks, to know the perception of women in relation to the quality of services they receive in health facilities, to know the expectations and demands of women in relation to the implementation of voluntary termination of pregnancy and to identify areas of improvement in the service provided by health facilities The qualitative research was developed through individual semi-structured in-depth interviews with women who were treated for a voluntary termination of pregnancy. To complement the information, health service providers from the hospitals considered in the research and government and civil society specialists with experience in the field were interviewed. In the case of the service users, a non-probabilistic sampling was carried out for convenience, considering women from the two health facilities, for which 26 women were interviewed between 2018 and 2020. The limited knowledge about therapeutic abortion and the processes to follow for its implementation makes it seem like a complex process. In the interviews conducted with health specialists we can identify that in the face of this lack of knowledge several professionals choose not to attend the procedure or if they do, they under-register it as an incomplete abortion or another cause to avoid carrying out the administrative procedures. The inadequate registration of cases generates the loss of information of women who come to the services and require attention within the framework of the protocol, which does not allow for exact figures. To achieve greater dissemination of the protocol, it is necessary to inform through different media, social networks, talks at all levels of the health sector and strengthen the capacities of professionals to disseminate the standard, identify cases and provide adequate information to those who need it. The opportunities for improvement contemplated go through the progressive implementation of the protocol, for which the budget considered should be increased to guarantee its implementation. The budget should consider actions to improve the equipment and furniture where the service is provided, the sensitization of the health personnel, the dissemination of the protocol both to the health facility staff and to the women within the framework of their right to have all the necessary information to achieve the highest possible health standard. The legal framework should be broadened to allow women to access abortion. A first option would be to analyze the broadening of the grounds for access to legal abortion and then to review the legislation to approve a regulatory framework that would allow unrestricted access to abortion up to a certain period of pregnancy, thus improving access to safe abortion services and reducing clandestine procedures that put women's health and lives at risk.
