Continents have experienced changes in fertility rates, such as in Latin America and Peru, which has generated concern for the future. This paper analyzes a group of determinants that affect the total fertility rate in the departments with low population density in Peru, through the estimation of a random effects panel data model, it is shown that the model as a whole is significant, and that according to the coefficients found the order of importance of the variables on the fertility rate is as follows: the percentage of women of childbearing age with unmet need for family planning, the economic activity rate of women, the percentage of births attended by a qualified health professional, the proportion of the urban population living in slums, informal settlements or inadequate housing, GDP and, finally, the percentage of households with at least one television set.
