This study seeks to demonstrate the importance of Net International Reserves (RIN) in reducing the deterioration of the current account balance and the capital balance of the countries of Peru and Chile in the face of the international financial crisis of 2008 originating in the United States. . The deterioration of the current account balance begins with the fall in the terms of trade due to the fact that advanced economies are in recession, while the next step is the outflow of foreign capital flows, negatively impacting the capital balance. For this reason, it is the importance that International Reserves have had in crises. Therefore, the present study aims to propose alternatives to increase the Net International Reserves (NIR) when the economic situation is favorable and to use them when it is not favorable, having as its main objective the sustainability of the main economic indicators that are the basis of sustainability and economic development of a country, mainly emerging economies. Finally, the main findings are discussed and suggestions are made for future studies in the field.
