This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between burnout syndrome and strategies used to cope with stress in a group of 95 professional and technical nurses from various healthcare services working at a national hospital in Callao. A non-experimental design with a basic and correlational nature was chosen. Two measurement instruments were administered: the Maslach Burnout Scale and the Coping with Stress Inventory. The results showed that burnout syndrome correlated directly with moderate to low intensity with emotion-focused strategies (rs = .503; p < .05) and task-focused strategies (rs = .276; p < .05). When analyzing burnout levels, both female and male groups were predominantly at a medium level. Emotion-focused strategies were employed depending on circumstances by 61.1% (58 participants), while task-focused strategies were used by 48.4%. The study concluded that emotion-focused and task-focused coping strategies are significantly associated with burnout syndrome among nurses in a hospital setting.
