The study analyzed the impact of omega-3 supplementation on inflammatory markers in cancer patients, using the Evidence-Based Nutrition methodology. An extensive literature review was conducted in databases such as PUBMED, EMBASE, SCIELO, and SCIENCE DIRECT, identifying a total of 14 studies, 10 of which were selected for evaluation using the "CASPE Critical Reading" tool. A notable randomized clinical trial, titled "Multidirectional Cancer Therapy with Omega-3 Fatty Acids: An Update," achieved an AII level of evidence and received a strong recommendation. The results of the studies suggest that omega-3 could be a valuable tool for reducing post-surgical inflammation in patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer and may help lower IL-6 and TNFR-2 levels in breast cancer patients. These findings depend on factors such as the omega-3 formulation, dosage, supplementation duration, as well as the type of cancer and the patient's nutritional status. In conclusion, the results are varied, highlighting the need for further research to draw more definitive conclusions.
