As for older adults, the safeguarding of their cognitive functions is a necessary condition to develop an independent and productive life, so intervention strategies are required to improve their lifestyle and consequently, avoid the very common depressive symptomatology in this type of population. For this reason, The Objective of this research is: To identify how cognitive functionality is related to depression in older adults treated at a National Hospital in Lima, 2024. Methodology: The type of research is applied, quantitative approach, hypothetico-deductive method, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational design. Population: 87 older adults attended at the Hospital of Lima. Survey technique and as instruments two scales of cognitive functionality and depression respectively. For the validation of the cognitive functionality instrument, the MMSE Test and the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale Test for depression were used, both applied through the work of Urcia et al. at a national level in 2020, finding a value of 0.827 and 0.98 for each one respectively. The reliability of the MMSE test under Cronbach's alpha coefficient, 0.80 and 0.832, for the Geriatric Depression Scale. The analysis of the data to determine the correlation of the variables will be done by means of Pearson's correlation coefficient test using the corresponding statistical calculation programs.
