Iron deficiency anemia and decreased erythropoietin production are common in chronic kidney disease. There are different treatment strategies, such as parenteral iron infusion. The objective of this research Critical Review: Effect of parenteral iron infusion on hemoglobin levels in adult patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis, was to know the answer to the clinical question: What is the effect of parenteral iron infusion on hemoglobin levels in adult patients with chronic kidney disease on Dialysis? We apply the Evidence-Based Nutrition (NUBE) method. To search for information, MEDLINE, SCIELO, SCOPUS, and PUBMED were used, identifying 92 articles, of which 11 were selected and evaluated with the CASPE tool. In the end, the Randomized Clinical Trial entitled: Maintenance intravenous iron in hemodialysis patients to minimize erythropoietin doses: a double blinded, randomized controlled trial (the MAINTAIN IRON trial) was selected, which has AI evidence and a “STRONG” Recommendation. The critical judgment allowed to conclude that it is important to supplement iron in these patients with CKD, especially during dialysis.
