In CKD it is common to present anemia, this means low levels of the hemoglobin protein causing fatigue or weakness in patients, also low iron levels are related to anemia in this type of patients. The present work entitled Critical Review: Effect of iron supplementation on hemoglobin of adult patients with chronic kidney disease, had as its objective to identify the effect of iron on hemoglobin of adult patients with chronic kidney disease. The clinical question was: What is the effect of iron supplementation on hemoglobin of adult patients with CKD? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) method was used. References were searched in MEDLINE, SCOPUS, SCIENCE DIRECT, PUBMED, SCIELO, 28 articles were found, selecting ten that were assessed by CASPE, identifying at the end the Randomized Clinical Trial entitled as Effect of ferric citrate versus ferrous sulfate on iron parameters. and phosphate in patients with iron deficiency and CKD, whose level of evidence is AI and has a strong recommendation, according to the expertise of the researcher. The critical judgment suggested that participation over a 12-week period resulted in a greater increase in TSAT and ferritin compared to ferrous sulfate in people with CKD, and indicates that ferric citrate is more effective in treating anemia.
