Objective: To determine if gestational diabetes is a risk factor for preeclampsia in pregnant women treated at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the period 2015-2018 Material and Methods: An observational analytical study of cases and population controls was carried out with a sample consisting of all the cases and controls that were presented in the 2015-2018 period and that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria at the time of study. Results: if gestational diabetes is a risk factor for preeclampsia with an OR of 2.85 (95% CI 1.553 to 4.518), it is also possible to contract with the hypothesis an association between both variables with a Chi value of 13.201 and a value of p = 0.0002, at a level of significance of 5%. Conclusions: gestational diabetes is a risk factor for pregnant women with preeclampsia
