To determine whether the administration of tranexamic acid is more effective than placebo in reducing blood loss and blood transfusion rate in patients undergoing surgery for intertrochanteric fracture. Methods: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing the effects of tranexamic acid with placebo in patients with intertrochanteric fracture undergoing surgery was conducted. Clinical outcomes such as surgical blood loss, blood transfusion rate, and the incidence of thromboembolic events were evaluated. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, and a meta-analysis was performed using RevMan software. Results: The review included 14 RCTs. A statistically significant reduction in surgical blood loss was observed in the tranexamic acid group compared to placebo. Additionally, a significant decrease in blood transfusion rates was evident in the tranexamic acid group. No significant differences were found in the incidence of thromboembolic events between the groups. Conclusion: Tranexamic acid proved to be effective in reducing blood loss and the need for transfusions in patients with intertrochanteric hip fracture undergoing surgery
