This research analyzes the verbal and non-verbal discourse of former President Martín Vizcarra broadcast on television in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020, from the announcement of the first case of COVID-19 in Peru, on March 6, to the declaration of compulsory social immobilization, on March 18. To do this, 7 press conferences broadcast on television have been analyzed, using 8 observation guides for each of them. The results show that his verbal discourse was characterized by a permanent presence of former President Martín Vizcarra to offer information, establishing a specific time so that everyone can tune in, and using terms and expressions focused on public health issues, with a notable difference if it is compared with the economic issue, being the transmitting agent that starred in the government communication, evidencing the scarcity of spokespersons with the same level of credibility. Likewise, the argumentation and persuasion linked to the sentimental aspect prevailed, on the side of non-verbal language, its tone, rhythm and volume were adequate, managing to use them according to the context; however, much of the time his facial expression reflected seriousness to the point of not agreeing with the message he wanted to convey. Finally, his gaze, posture and gestures were consistent with the verbal content of his message.
