To determine whether sociodemographic characteristics, oral health, lifestyle habits, oral hygiene behaviors, and the presence of diseases or pathological conditions are factors associated with the prevalence of halitosis among students at a Technological Higher Institute in Trujillo. Materials and Methods: The study was observational and cross-sectional. A total of 143 students over 18 years old from a Technological Institute in Trujillo were evaluated. Participants completed a questionnaire and underwent a clinical evaluation to determine the presence of dental caries, dental restorations, root remnants, and tongue coating. Additionally, a gas chromatograph was used to analyze the prevalence of halitosis and explore its possible associated factors. Results: It was found that 82.5% of the evaluated students had halitosis. The findings showed that age (p=0.008), presence of dental caries (p=0.004), root remnants (p=0.040), use of dental floss (p=0.047), and presence of systemic diseases (p=0.000) are factors associated with the prevalence of halitosis (p<0.05). Conclusion: Age, presence of dental caries, root remnants, use of dental floss, and presence of systemic disease are associated factors related to the prevalence of halitosis
