Objective: To establish the association between preterm delivery and adolescent pregnancy in Hospital III Essalud José Cayetano Heredia, Piura, January-December 2017. Material and Methods: Retrospective case and control study in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Hospital III EsSalud José Cayetano Heredia, Piura, 2017. We included 1828 pregnant women between 10-45 years who were attended by childbirth, two Study groups, comprised of pregnant women who presented preterm birth (cases) and term (controls), through non-probabilistic sampling, those that did not meet the selection criteria were excluded. The data were collected from the delivery book of the Obstetrics-Gynecology service and from the medical records. The analysis was performed with percentages, averages, chi2, odds ratio, using the statistical program STATA version 11.1. Results: Of the 1828 pregnant women, 509 presented preterm delivery, which represents an incidence of 27.8%. The adolescents represented 14.3% and 11.7% in the group of cases and in that of controls respectively. In the bivariate analysis, only two significant characteristics were found; maternal age and parity. The maternal age presented an odds ratio (OR) of (2.23). Conclusion: Adolescent pregnancy increases twice the risk of preterm delivery. The incidence of adolescent pregnancy in the study is related to the national evidence. The incidence of preterm delivery far exceeds the figures reported nationally and internationally.
