With the objective of determining the characteristics of drug consumption during pregnancy in the patients of the Belén Hospital of Trujillo. In 2017, a simple descriptive study was carried out in 347 puerperal women from 13 years of age, who received a semistructured survey validated by experts with a significant reliability of KR-20 equal to 0.788. It was found that the type of medication most used during pregnancy are antianemic drugs in 96.3% followed by vitamins and proteins, 55.3%; the type of professional prescriber was obstetrician in 89.6%, physician 38.6%; 51.3% of pregnant women have used at least two medications during pregnancy. According to the characterization of the use of the medicines, 81.9% acquired it in the health establishment that attended it; 96.2% of patients receive the medication prescribed in the prescription; 21.9% acquire the medication without medical prescription, of these 63.4% are for pain, 28.0% are for fever and 7.3% are medicines for infection. With respect to the knowledge of pregnant women, 85.9% are aware that vitamins or proteins should be consumed after consultation with the obstetrician.
