To determine whether Overweight and Obesity are risk factors for developing preeclampsia . Material and Methods: An analytical , observational , retrospective , case-control type study in pregnant women at the Obstetrics’s Department of the Chulucanas’s Support Hospital during the period 2015 was carried out . The study population consisted of 204 pregnant women at term , who were divided into 2 groups : with and without preeclampsia . The odds ratio was determined and the chi-square test was applied . Results: An average maternal age was found significantly higher in the group of pregnant women with preeclampsia compared to the group without it (p <0.05) . Overweight is a risk factor for preeclampsia with an odds ratio of 2.2 (95% CI: 1.32; 4.52) which was significant . Obesity is a risk factor for preeclampsia with an odds ratio of 2.48 (95% CI: 1.44; 4.96) which was significant . Overweight and obesity are risk factors for developing preeclampsia with signs of alarm , with an odds ratio of 3.17 (95% CI: 1.82; 6.44) which was significant . Conclusions: Overweight and Obesity are risk factors for developing preeclampsia .
