preeclampsia materna se asoció con el desarrollo de epilepsia en niños OR: 2,72;
IC95%: 1.59-4.64 y p = 0.000.
(p <0.05).
Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic brain disorders in children younger than 15 years old. The causes that are associated with its development are different, and in this regard some studies have been done on its association with preeclampsia. Objective: To analyze whether preeclampsia is a risk factor for epilepsy in children treated at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Materials and methods: An observational, case-control study was performed out through the review of medical records of 230 children attending the Hospital Belén de Trujillo, between 2011-2016, divided into 115 cases and 115 controls. Results: 51% of the children with epilepsy were men, whose average age of diagnosis was 1.88 years. The average gestational age at which the mother suffered from preeclampsia was 37.92 weeks and mothers averaged 24.56 years during pregnancy. Maternal preeclampsia was associated with the development of epilepsy in children OR: 2,72; 95%CI: 1.59-4.64 and p = 0.000. Conclusion: Maternal preeclampsia is a risk factor for the development of epilepsy in children, increasing the risk 2.72 times. “
