Introduction: Kidney damage in diabetic patients can lead to chronic kidney disease, potentials of dialysis or renal transplantation, with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of nephroprotective treatment with antihypertensive drugs, losartan, captopril or enlapril, in patients with type II diabetes mellitus, with and without arterial hypertension (HTA) treated during the years 2012 to 2016, in the Polyclinic ““Víctor Panta Rodríguez““ Of Health in Chimbote. Materials and methods: A descriptive, retrospective work was designed. The sample consisted of 140 cases (68 type II diabetic patients and 72 type II diabetic patients). Clinical histories, control cards, reports of VISARE (Sub-System of Surveillance of Renal Health) were reviewed. Results: There was a predominance of female patients. Prevalence: 2023 diabetic cases with and without hypertension. Stage 0 of ERC: 40% in diabetics and 41% in diabetics with hypertension. Stage 1: 5 cases in type II diabetics and 3 cases in diabetics with hypertension. Stage 2: 2 cases in diabetics with hypertension. Stage 3A: 7 cases in diabetics and 6 cases in diabetics with hypertension. Stage 3B: 3 cases in diabetics with hypertension. After five years of nephroprotection with losartan, captopril and enalapril, there was a trend for improvement of chronic kidney disease and glomerular filtration rate. Conclusion: Antihypertensive drugs have a nephroprotective effect in patients with diabetes mellitus type II with and without hypertension. Long-term prospective cohort studies are required to demonstrate their significance.
